The use of nine different lots of pressed yeast as inocula in ethanol fermentation tests led to relatively small variations of the ethanol yield (percentual standard deviation = 3.9%), of the ethanol productivity (percentual standard deviation = 2.9%) and of the maximum ethanol production rate (percentual standard deviation = 3.8%) when well controlled synthetic medium was used. The above percentual standard deviations were 6.6%, 9.45 and 7.7%, respectively, when sugar-cane fermentation media were used.en
